If you're reading this on your phone...

I'd tell you to put your phone away! Ha, but first, finish reading this post.

Steph and I tried minimizing how often we use our devices (ie. phones, tablets, and laptops) for two weeks by following one simple rule: no devices during meal times. Sure, you could just eat faster to lessen the torture OR you could embrace the freedom.

I know I'm glued to my phone...I check it more often than I should. I think it has even reached the point where I think I hear it vibrating (it's never on "Sound" mode). Don't ask me what I do on my phone because I have no clue. I'd jump from app to app, typically social media apps, sometimes streaming apps like YouTube (there is so much junk to sieve through in the interwebs!).

As I reflect on it, I realize that the phone is my tool to distract myself from my thoughts and reality. Maybe my mind is instinctively reacting to stress by procrastinating (ie. playing on my phone). Two weeks of eating in silence, without any distractions, will make you aware of your thoughts (trust me!). Those thoughts may be scary or depressing at first but I think intentionally processing them will make you feel better eventually (at least that's how it was for me). Right now, you may not even realize how overwhelmed you truly feel because you have yet to give yourself time to reflect!

This might be hard for those who do not have scheduled meal times. To people as such, my advice (coming from a personal experience with disordered eating), make time. There are 24 hours in a day, you've got to have some time to eat. Inadvertently, meal time will also be "me-time"!! Steph described her meal times as meditative, which I absolutely agree!

We are all going through something, some greater than others but all equally significant. Let's take some time to fuel our bodies with energy and nutrients while clearing our minds! Completing two extremely challenging tasks as such concurrently? Now that's efficiency!

As always, stay cheeky,

Janelle
